About The Artist As a boy growing up in New Zealand, Ray learned from his father how to carve whale bones he found along the beach. Later, he became interested in stained glass. At the age of 14, he apprenticed with Van Breeman, a Dutch Master Builder. Ray too became a master builder, carpenter and cabinetmaker. Ray received a Trade Certificate in Carpentry from Wellington Technical College, New Zealand, and traveled the world working his craft, eventually landing in the United States in 1992. He quickly began working for several art galleries in New York City. Artists would dream up elaborate structures and Ray would build them, such as a Japanese tea house and a 12 foot hanging glass sculpture. While working for the Yoshii Gallery, he built custom frames for artists like Anthony Benedetto and Alberto Giacometti. For the Galerie Gerald Piltzer in Paris, Ray framed the works of Ansel Adams, Claude Monet, Edouard Manet and Pablo Picasso. Ray’s interest in photography was born along with his daughter, Delenn, in February 2000. His eye for capturing just the right moment is complimented by an interest in perfecting a relatively new printing format called giclee (zhee-CLAY). Producing archival prints with amazing color fidelity, gloss level and scratch resistance, while providing consistently stable colors that significantly out perform lesser ink technologies. Ray's gift is taking simple photographs and digitally turning them into works of art on canvas, as oil paintings and water colors.
